Do you ever wonder what our choir members do when they're not singing on Sundays? this new monthly feature will help to fill us in and provide a fascinating insight into just how much they all manage to fit in!
Josephine spent some of September strutting her stuff as the lead in Tom Philips’ new opera Irma at the South London Gallery. In her work as a composer, the Southbank Sinfonia will be premiering her Concerto for Drum Machine and Orchestra on 22nd October. Christine is looking forward to a quieter couple of months, once she has finished taking part in a “Song Marathon” at the Oxford Lieder Festival. Kathy is back at work after a summer off: Coming up are trips to Copenhagen to polish up the B Minor Mass before the Hampstead performance in November, and outings of her American Voices programme in Brighton and Paris.
Paul is hopping between here and Bergen for his work with the Edvard Grieg Kor. Coming up in October they sing Mozart Requiem with Thierry Fischer and the Bergen Philharmonic; and an acapella programme with Jonathan Rathbone (ex-Swingle Singer). We are missing Aidan, who is in Ireland at the Wexford Opera Festival – playing the Duke of Mantua in performances of Rigoletto. He will be back at the beginning of November. Nick is back with us after a busy September. He’ll be off to sing the Brahms Requiem solos at the Oxford Lieder Festival later in the month. After the summer off, Martin is back to the day job at St Paul’s Cathedral. You can catch him on BBC iPlayer radio, singing solos in Tippett’s Spirituals with St Paul’s and Temple Church choirs at the St Alban’s Organ Festival.
Finally, Martha has moved to take up one of the alto positions at the Brompton Oratory. We expect that the vacant Alto 1 role will be filled once the new Director of Music is in place to make the appointment in January 2018.
