Prosperous wine merchant of New Bond Street, was called ‘the father of the London wine trade’. He came to Hampstead in 1826 and later [1841] built himself a grand house, Hillfield, in Belsize Park [site of Old Town Hall]. His sons, Charles and Robert, were great benefactors of St Stephen’s Rosslyn Hill.
