The Parish Church of St John-at-Hampstead

Voluntary Rate

Raising a Voluntary Church Rate

In 1986 (Hampstead’s Millennium year) our church raised a ‘voluntary rate’ towards the appeal for redecorating the interior of our Georgian building. The response from residents within the Parish boundaries was so good and the feedback so positive that we have continued to make this appeal every year.

The appeal is only for the maintenance of the building, and never for the running costs of the Parish.

More recently we have asked simply for any donation people wish to give, and not linked it to rateable value or a Council Tax band. We are delighted that people of all faiths and none have continued to support the community life of their parish church in this way.
