The most important news this month is the appointment of our new regular alto Jessica Dandy, who will sing at the morning and evensong services in the spot that has been vacant since last July. Lots of you will recognise Jess who has been a regular dep since moving back to London last summer. Jess is originally from Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, and studied at Trinity College, Cambridge and then the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She now works in London as a freelance singer, both in ensembles like the Monteverdi Choir and Polyphony, but also in solo recitals and competitions – she won the London Bach Society Bach Singers Prize in 2017. Her website www.jessdandycontralto.com has some beautiful recordings. Jess is a tremendous colleague and we are very pleased as a choir to have her on board permanently!
18th March sees our Bach St John Passion performance – with Ensemble Passio and solos from the choir – you’ll see adverts for this elsewhere, but please do come and support us for what is always a very special evening.
This month takes Josephine to the US with Tenebrae singing Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles, and thereafter to Shoreditch to premiere her own short piece for drum machine and orchestra as part of Nonclassical’s ‘Rise of the Machines’. Nick is in Jonathan Dove’s Flight at the Royal Academy on 12th and 17th (matinee) March – details on the Academy website. He’s also singing arias in Bach’s St John Passion at Cadogan Hall on 23rd March and Hereford Cathedral on 27th March, and dashes back for a lunchtime song recital at St Clement Danes on 28th March. Paul is in Bergen for Verdi Requiem performances with Ed Gardner conducting.
