Big Brew Day       Sue Kwok

It is now exactly 10 years since the Fairtrade Stall was started at Hampstead Parish Church so do come along and help us celebrate.

Big Brew Day is our annual festival of Fairtrade, held during Fairtrade Fortnight (26th February – 11th March) when we raise money to send to Traidcraft Exchange, the charitable arm of Traidcraft, helping people in some of the world’s poorest communities invest in brighter futures for themselves and their families.

This year our support will be going towards the charity’s “Hidden Entrepreneur” Appeal which focuses on people in developing countries who have the talent and determination to succeed but lack the opportunity. The money we raise will be helping people across Africa and Asia learn the skills they need to turn their potential into profit – and use that to feed their families and educate their children.

(People like Ruth, a 62 year old Hidden Entrepreneur from Kenya who is always looking for new opportunities to grow her farm – after increasing her income through participating in Traidcraft Exchange’s Horticulture project, she bought some cows for milk. Now she’s looking even further ahead – she says, “If I had money to invest, I’d buy more land and construct houses to rent out.”)

And again this year, every penny raised before 11th April will be doubled by UK Aid Match from the UK government, thanks to the Department of International Development; this means we can help twice as many people in developing countries to build businesses that will enable them to leave poverty behind for good.

At our Big Brew event there will be refreshments, a cake stall, a raffle, some fun games to play, and a chance to sample the new range of Traidcraft luxury organic chocolate bars, as well as all the usual goods for sale on the Traidcraft stall. So do please come and join us down in the Crypt Room after the 10:30 a.m. service on March 4th and support the Traidcraft Campaign by:

1.    Buying from the Traidcraft stall
2.    Buying homemade cakes and biscuits from     the cake stall, many made from Fairtrade     ingredients.
3.    Paying to sample different flavours of luxury organic chocolate
4.    Having a go at some of the fun games – there will be prizes!
5.    Buying a raffle ticket
6.    Giving generously to the Traidcraft campaign

We also hope it will be a chance for you to chat with old friends and maybe meet some new ones!
