Like communities around the world, we have watched with horror the suffering of families fleeing conflict and trapped in the dire conditions of refugee camps. As you know Hampstead Parish Church is applying to become a Community Sponsor and is hoping to welcome a refugee family to Camden in August 2018.
We would like to ask for your support.
How can you help?
We are looking for volunteers willing to give time and energy to befriend the family and to provide support as they settle in.
What we will provide?
We will provide you with ongoing training and support. We will work with you to decide what type of support you feel comfortable providing.
You will be joining part of a large team providing all types of support from showing the family how to use the local transport, to being a friendly face, to helping them to practice speaking English.
What we expect from you?
Attendance at a series of preparatory training events. These are to be held monthly on a Saturday morning. If this time does not suit you please still get in touch as we may be able to make other arrangements.
Reliability for the family. We will be a team supporting a family who has been through trauma and will inevitably face challenges as they settle in the UK. Building trust between the community and the family is paramount so we are looking for people prepared to make a regular commitment to the family.

We will be holding our first training session on Saturday 20th January in the Gregory Room at Hampstead Parish Church, starting at 10.00 am with tea and coffee. We expect the session to be finished by 1.00 pm.
This will be an opportunity to meet the team, find out more and decide if you would like to be involved.
