1st November, All Saints Day, saw the premiere of a new musical work at Corpus. As part of the Quincentenary celebrations, the College Chaplain, Judith Maltby asked former Organ Scholar, David Moore, (Music, 2003) to compose a new Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis for the College Choir. This was duly performed as part of Wednesday’s Commemoration of Benefactors’ Evensong. David’s tuneful, stirring and colourful music both celebrated and enhanced these ancient texts. The music was clearly not straightforward to sing but the Choir performed with great confidence and enjoyment, with David accompanying them on the organ. The current Organ Scholars were also very impressive- both conducting and playing for the Service. Professor Eamon Duffy’s sermon managed to combine comment on both our 500th anniversary and that of Martin Luther’s 95 Theses. It was altogether a very special occasion.
