November is a busy month for the choir: some of us will be singing solos for the Scratch Requiem, and then of course, the B Minor Mass as part of the Hampstead Festival later in the month. We are delighted to have James back to conduct for these occasions. We’ve missed him – but we’re going to have to learn to cope with that!
We are also delighted that Aidan will be back on our shores after his time in Wexford. He’ll be taking on some conducting duties when James is not around, and before our new Director of Music is appointed. Paul has enjoyed the relative luxury of rehearsing with his Norwegian colleagues IN London for a change. They’ve been preparing for a collaboration with Voces 8 next year.
Kathy will be away in Paris early in the month, giving her US Art Song programme a new twist: American Voices – European Influences. She’ll be combining a concert at the American Cathedral in the 8th arr with the chance for a really good steak-frites.
Nick is starring as Don Giovanni in the Royal Academy Opera School performances at Hackney Round Chapel on 22nd and 24th November. He’d be delighted to see anyone who can make it. Tickets are available from the Academy Box Office, on 020 7873 7300 or http://www.ram.ac.uk/whats-on/event/don-giovanni
Christine’s chamber ensemble, Siglo de Oro, are performing as part of the St John’s Smith Square Lunchtime Recital Series on Thursday 9th November at 1pm. Tickets costing £10 are available on www.sjss.org.uk
In other news, we’re delighted that our former colleague, Ed Price, will be joining us for Remembrance Sunday and the Duruflé Requiem as part of the liturgy.
An extra bit of choir news: A special Evensong for old members at Corpus Christi College, Oxford on Wednesday 1st November in thanksgiving for the College’s Quincentenary premiered a new choral setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis especially composed for the event by former Organ Scholar, David Moore (CCC 2003).
