Historian, buried in the Churchyard (d. 1929)
T.F. Tout was a towering and influential figure in the development of historical studies in Britain in the early twentieth century. He spent most of his life at Manchester University where he established a distinguished and distinctive history school. Tout spent the last five years of his life in Hampstead where he lived with his wife Mary at 3 Oak Hill Park, and he was buried in the Additional Burial Ground on 28 October 1929.
A two day conference is to be held at the Institute of Historical Research on 9 and 10 June 2017 when a number of historians will re-assess aspects of Tout’s life and work. At 6pm on Friday 9 June, Tout’s grandson, Tom Sharp, will speak in the Parish Church about his grandfather and this will be followed by a short ceremony at Tout’s grave.
Everyone is most welcome to come to Tom Sharp’s talk. If you are interested in learning more about the conference, please consult where you will find details about the speakers and the programme.
