Hampstead Parochial School Development Fund      Jenny Lupa

Judy asked me if I would be interested in writing a bit about the Hampstead Parochial School Development Fund.  And while I’m happy to do that, I’d also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to St. John’s Parish Church for the support you’ve given our school over the years.  We are so grateful for the close relationship we have with St. John’s. We worship at the church several times throughout the academic year and once a week a member of the clergy leads our school assembly. Our students’ school experience is certainly strengthened by our ties to St. John’s.

In the time that I have served first as a Foundation Governor and now, Chair of Governors – the Development Fund has been used to support the well-being of our students, teachers, and staff. The fund has directly covered the cost of the Year 6 Residential School Journey for some of families who would have trouble paying for the trip, but don’t qualify for financial help through the Government’s Pupil Premium Fund.  This is an incredibly important part of our Year 6 students’ time at HPS. The team building and deepening of friendships goes a long way to boost the confidence of our children in what can be a challenging year, as they prepare to leave for Secondary School. We have also used the Development Fund to renovate the Staff Room. The school was able to purchase new furniture and generally improve the environs.  It is a much more comfortable and welcoming area and is used every morning for staff meetings.

But more than the concrete examples I’ve listed above, the Development Fund is a direct connection between Hampstead Parochial School and St John’s Church. Knowing that we are cared for and supported by this congregation helps our entire school community. In a time when school budgets (including ours) are being cut, it’s a comfort to know that you are here for us pastorally and financially. While I continue to serve as Chair of Governors, I’d like to encourage you all to come and visit Hampstead Parochial School.  Our Christmas and Summer Fairs are always fun and full of good cheer and amazing food. There is also a Farmer’s Market every Saturday, if you’d like a chance to wander around and take a look at the school grounds. Our staff and students will be joining St. John’s for the Ash Wednesday Service – please come and see how much the church means to our school community. In the meantime, I’d ask you all to continue to pray for our school and if you have any questions about Hampstead Parochial School, please feel free to contact me.
