Sheena’s article highlights the need to have more stewards. Any of us who take a turn in church during the week could tell similar stories of such encounters but we’re not able to cover nearly enough time – the church is open every day between 9am and 5pm but it’s only on Wednesdays and Saturdays that we have anyone there and the staff can’t spend their time sitting around waiting to be helpful. I know I’ve said it so many times before but it really isn’t an onorous job: shifts are never more than 2 hours and you can bring something to do – so long as it isn’t so absorbing you don’t notice the visitors! You don’t have to do it alone, come with a friend, it’s a perfect place to chat. Welcoming really is an important and not very taxing part of our ministry so why not give it a try?
