A Watery Hour
Our Literary Hour in church on Wed April 15th is entitled Water, Water Every Where. It contains songs and poems about lakes, rivers and the sea. But this is a performance with a difference! Three of the songs we sing Loch Lomond, Those in Peril on the Sea and Shenandoah are in English and the audience is invited to join in the choruses- scripts provided.
But our small German-speaking choir will also deliver a fourth song, the renowned Die Lorelei by Heinrich Heine, in German. Thrill to the lines Ich weiss nicht was soll es bedeuten dass Ich so traurig bin sung to Silcher’s haunting melody! Anyone who can rustle up even a few words of German is welcome to singalong to this one too.
At 11.30 am in church on the 15th there will be a rehearsal for anyone who wants to sing along in either language or both. We shall then go straight into the performance at 1pm; no lunchbreak so bring sandwiches please. The event is free though there is a retiring collection. Inquiries to Stephen Clarke
