I have had a Quarterly Bulletin from the Sudan Committee of Salisbury Diocese. Although, violence has continued in both Sudans, the Archbishop of Canterbury believes that the Church is the one community which can build bridges of reconciliation. He was shocked by so many unburied bodies in the streets when he visited, but consecrated mass graves even as survivors dug with their hands to bury the dead. It seems that events in Syria have taken some of the conflict zones such as Sudan out of the headlines. Archbishop Welby was quoted as saying, even after twenty years of war that, ‘The Spirit of a loving God midst all the pain and conflict was still alive and not defeated’.
With the Quarterly Bulletin came a Postcard Interim Update. Some of the Association’s card collators have passed away, or reached an age of over 90 and have had to step down. They have not been replaced, so the numbers of used postcards to sell has been reduced. I send postcards from my flat to the organiser regularly. Some were sent to our daughter years ago before emails. Some are vintage cards which came from the bottom of a drawer. Others have been used for correspondence, but have collectible prints of art works on the other side. There are many types of postcards which are of interest to dealers and collectors. You may have just a few which you never sent at the time you bought them; they might seem not worth the price of a stamp these days.
The solution is to put them in an envelope or small stationer’s bag and get them to the Treasurer’s In-tray in the Parish Office. It is best to put ‘For Susan Woolf’ on the envelope. If you have more than a shoebox of cards, contact me; I can post them to the organiser.
Thank you very much!
