One of the local charities our parish church supports
Henderson Court is a central hub for older people in the Hampstead area. Next year 2016, the centre celebrates 50 years of service in the community, providing a sanctuary for the elderly, some not in the best of health, some feeling the strain of loneliness, who can find companionship, activities to keep mind and body engaged, and a wholesome 3-course hot lunch cooked on the premises.
The centre is open access, which means any person over 50 years old can use its facilities and services. Henderson Court was block-funded by Camden Council, with additional income raised by appeals and fundraising activities, but in 2010 Camden withdrew its funding. Currently the centre survives with a mixture of income from personal budget allocations via adult social care, plus extra fundraising and appeals. Last year the centre ran a deficit budget and this will also be the case for the oncoming year.
The centre is fortunate to have a thoroughly dedicated and caring team of staff plus volunteers, who give personal attention to everyone in a wonderfully friendly and supportive way, generating good will, fun and laughter.
However, it does rely on donations and voluntary work, so is very grateful for the charitable giving from the church. Naturally they would welcome any additional funding from individuals.
