Letter from Emma Emma Smith

A letter following the party and presentation in the Moreland Hall

Dear all

Thank you, THANK YOU all so much for such a wonderful send-off last Sunday.  It was quite overwhelming to see so many members of the HPC family gathered together from all our different congregations, and to be able to celebrate a final Eucharist with you all.

I have had a wonderful three years here at Hampstead Parish Church, and I will remember my curacy with affection and many happy memories.  I am so grateful for your warm welcome, and for the fun, laughter and serious times we have shared together.  Jeremy and the boys have also very much enjoyed being at St John’s, and getting to know you all.

Thank you for your amazingly generous goodbye gifts – Jeremy and I are absolutely delighted with the canteen of cutlery which we had very much hoped for, and we are both looking forward very much to spending the additional John Lewis vouchers on further things for entertaining (table mats, additional crockery, and possibly even curtains for our new dining room, which also serves as the parish room.)  The Vicar sweetly referred to me in his farewell speech as “the hostess with the mostest”, and now, thanks to your kindness, I certainly shall be!!

Hugo and Guy were also thrilled with their very generous book tokens, and the many other gifts they received.  I know that they were sad to say goodbye to the many friends they have made.

Many thanks to all those who helped to make Sunday such a wonderful day to remember.   Various different people seem to have remembered that my favourite colour is pink, and I very much appreciated the flowers which echoed those at both my wedding and my priesting, and all the other pink touches throughout the day.  Fr Stephen, the choirs (Adult and Junior), the intercessors, servers and everyone involved in the service made it all so special.  The Junior Prom was a delight, and the lunch delicious and beautifully organised.  I am of course, particularly grateful to those generous and forbearing souls who were prepared to take part in our sketch about life in the Vestry…

You will all be in my thoughts and prayers for a long time to come.

With love and thanks from us all

Emma
