Scientists

SCIENTISTS have come up with an equation for the ideal Christmas tree.

The mathematical formula devised by researchers at Sheffield University says a tree 180cm (5ft 11in) tall needs 37 baubles, 919cm (30ft 2in) of tinsel and 565cm (18ft 6in) of lights. An angel 18cm (7in) high is needed on top in order to complete the perfect look.

As Christmas nears, lights, decorations and the all‑important tree will be top of the shopping list.

The formula is :-

Number of baubles = v17  x (tree height in cms)
                    20
Length of tinsel in cms = 13 x π x (tree height in cms)
                  8
The length of lights in cms = π x x (tree height in cms)

The height of the star/fairy in cms = height of tree in cms
                         10

But, they say, getting the decorations just right requires a definite talent!
