Did you know that at least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day? Or that over 22,000 children die every day around the world from poverty, hunger and easily preventable diseases? It is because of these statistics that Traidcraft wants to expand its focus beyond the marketplace to ensure that their work helps people and their communities not just to earn more money, but to flourish. Traidcraft has pledged to help more people improve their lives, to pioneer new areas of fair and ethical trade, to challenge the rules of trade and build support for trade justice.
We will be holding our Traidcraft Big Brew event during Fairtrade Fortnight on Sunday March 4th after the 10.30 service. We will be serving Traidcraft tea, coffee and fruit juice, biscuits and cakes (some home made, all with Fairtrade ingredients!) The usual Traidcraft stall will be operating. We will be asking everyone to add their link to our paper chain calling on the government to establish a supermarket watchdog and there will be a quiz – with prizes! Please come along, enjoy the event and make a donation to Traidcraft to help it create a world freed from the scandal of poverty, where trade is just and people and communities can flourish.
In the meantime, why not take a step for Fairtrade by making and filling your pancakes on Shrove Tuesday with fair-trade ingredients – lemons and sugar, chocolate and fruit?
We look forward to seeing you on March 4th!
