Memory Tree and a Memorial Book
As part of the Church’s celebration of the 200th anniversary of the consecration of the Additional Burial Ground, a ‘Memory Tree’ will be placed in the South Chapel. The Memory Tree will be symbolic of the fact that the Church is, and has been, part of the community for a long time. People’s memories and the graveyard are part of this link.
It will be there from the Sunday before the Festival, 17th June, and stay up for Sunday 1st July.
Tags, which people can tie on to the Memory Tree, will be provided. People can use these to write down their memories of people that have been important to them; or personal memories of significant events which to the outside world may appear big or even quite small. People can make the memories anonymous or include their name. The memories don’t need to be confined to the tags. They may, for example, include a photograph or a saying.
We would also like to create a page of memories on the Additional Burial Ground website. If you are happy for your memory to be included we ask that you put a red dot (which will also be provided) on the tag.
As well as the Memory Tree a Memorial Book will be placed on the altar in the South Chapel in which you can write the names of people who have died and who you would like the Church to remember. The Memorial Book will be kept and the names of the people in it will be read out during the All Souls’ Service on 4th November.
