Feed the Hungry

When we think of Jesus’ command our imagination usually flies to Africa, Asia, even South America – it doesn’t often stop at Camden Town or Islington.  But there is a need here too – Food banks are being set up all over the country to help people who, whilst not homeless, find themselves without money for food once the rent and utilities have been paid.  There are two local food banks, one in Camden Town and one on the Chalcot Estate, and our friends at CARIS Haringey supply food parcels to families in need in their area.   Some of our Harvest food will go to them and the PCC have agreed that we should have a monthly food collection on the first Sunday of the month.

A list of the things they ask for is attached.  Economy brands are fine but not huge packs.

Milk UHT or powdered
Fruit Juice (carton long life)
Soup
Pasta Sauces
Tomatoes (tinned) / Baked beans
Instant Mashed Potato
Rice / Pasta    (they don’t specify but I imagine white rice and
ordinary pasta rather than wholemeal if only because the shorter cooking time uses less fuel)
Tinned Meat/Fish/Fruit/Vegetables
Cooking oil
Flour / Cereals
Rice pudding / Sponge pudding (Tinned)
Sugar (500g)
Tea bags / Instant Coffee
Jam /  Biscuits or snack bars

The list is much the same for both but CARIS Haringey add:

Nappies, wipes, soaps, toothpaste, toilet paper.
