Family activities and service for Easter Eve Emma Smith

If you are at home over Easter and are wondering how to celebrate with your own or visiting children, please come along with them and join us in the Parish Rooms, the churchyard and the Church on Holy Saturday (April 23) from 3.30pm.

We shall be organising Easter activities for children and families which will culminate in a Service of Light at 6pm, in which we first rejoice and give thanks for the Risen Christ on the Eve of Easter Day.

During the afternoon, we shall be telling the Easter story, and learning Easter songs, and there will be a treasure hunt outside in the graveyard (weather permitting – otherwise indoors!) with a series of clues from the story leading to prizes…  There will also be traditional Easter children’s activities such as Easter card-painting, face-painting and cake-decorating, and tea, juice, sandwiches and hot cross buns will be provided for all the family.

The Service of Light at 6pm is part of the traditional Easter Vigil.  During the service, a fire will be kindled outside the church door, and the Paschal Candle, lit from the Easter fire, will be carried into the church to represent Christ’s rising from the dead and the Light he brings to the world.   It will be a short service in which we give thanks in song, story and prayer, and anticipate the full celebration of Easter Day.

If you think you might attend and especially if you would like to join us for tea at about 5.15 pm, it would be very helpful if you could let Emma know:  [email protected] or 07734 357515 for catering purposes.  We hope very much to see you there!
