Less than a year away ……
Question – What is the link between an actress, a children’s author, an inventor, a brave sailor, a cookery writer, a theatre producer, a chimney sweep and a bishop?
Answer – They are all buried in the Additional Burial Ground and will feature in our Flower Festival from 21st to 24th June 2012 which celebrates the 200th anniversary of the consecration of the Additional Burial Ground
Put the dates in your diary now – you will want to be there.
It is going to be a major festive weekend to raise funds for the charities and projects we support. Saturday will be a fun day with refreshments, cakes, activities and games for young and old and a church full of beautiful flowers. And of course the Raffle which we hope next year will be bigger and better than ever. The Bishop of Edmonton and the Pearly Queen (whose ancestors are buried in the ABG) will also be visiting.
The ABG was consecrated by the Bishop of London and his successor, the present Bishop of London, has agreed to preach at a special Choral Evensong on the Sunday.
How can you get involved?
We hope that everyone will get involved in some way. As well as flower arrangers we will also be needing lots of helpers including cooks, stall holders, stewards, people to organise and run games and activities, raffle ticket sellers… and lots more. Right now we need people to help with fund raising – both to approach local businesses and to help apply for funding. If you can help, or have experience in this area or suggestions on who we could approach please contact Judy East at [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> or Sheena Ginnings at [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>
We are also planning to set up a blog to highlight the rich history of the ABG. If you would like to help with doing research please contact Sheena Ginnings (email above)
Help us to make this the June event of 2012.
The above is just a taste of what will be happening…….
