Hampstead Counselling Service (HCS) is a small local charity which provides professional counselling and support for people with a wide range of emotional problems, such as depression, stress, bereavement and relationship difficulties.
The charity specifically offers counselling to those who cannot afford private therapy and also to those who feel unable to await treatment under the NHS: there is no waiting list at present. Many of HCS’s clients come from deprived areas of north London and can be socially disadvantaged. Referrals are received via GP surgeries or other agencies, but can also be by self –referral.
All our 8 counsellors are fully trained and accredited and undergo regular in-house supervision. They give their services with care and understanding and for significantly reduced fees: clients are only asked to pay a fee according to their financial circumstances.
It costs more to run the service than we receive in fees and we are always trying to find charitable donations to bridge this deficit: this is particularly difficult in the current economic climate. HCS is supported by Hampstead Parish Church with funds raised at the Spring Fair, for which we are very grateful.
We are urgently seeking an Honorary Treasurer, and if you would like further information about this rôle, or know anyone who might be interested please contact us below.
Further details about HCS are available on leaflets at the back of the church and on the website: www.hampsteadcounsellingservice.co.uk. If you would like a completely confidential consultation with a counsellor please telephone: 020 7485 7335 (voicemail service), or e-mail: [email protected].
