On Dedication Sunday (4th October) we shall be repeating the Freshers’ Fair which we held last year.
The new name is intended to emphasise both the range of activities (not many of which are remotely academic nor even very cerebral) in and around the Church and a more frank appeal for help. We tend to think of money as the tangible expression of our dedication to the church, and money is, of course, very important and, undoubtedly we need more of it, but talent, time and simple graft are valuable too. Come along to the new undercroft after the 10.30 and find out about all the Church’s activities and the ways you may be able to participate and help and at the same time discover hidden talents for Polishing Brass, Shakespearean Drama, Coffee Making, Bible reading and Bible teaching for infants, Gardening……. the range is huge but all involve giving a little of your time and energy to something worthwhile and having fun (well, most of the time…) and getting to know other members of he congregation. As George Herbert puts it:
All may of thee partake:
Nothing can be so mean,
Which with his tincture (for thy sake)
Will not grow bright and clean.
A servant with this clause
Makes Drudgerie divine:
Who sweeps a room, as for thy laws,
Makes that and th’ action fine.
But actually it is not all drudgery and at the Volunteers’ Fair there will be another tincture on offer- a glass of wine! Do come along.
