Do you like Jane Austen ? Did you thrill to Pride and Prejudice [in book or on TV], Persuasion, Sense and Sensibility and the rest? Did you know that her aunt, Philadelphia Hancock, is buried here in the churchyard? I’ve a reason for asking this, of course: the London Branch of the Jane Austen Society have asked if anyone would be prepared to keep the grave tidy. It’s a flat gravestone which all too easily gets covered over with leaves, ivy etc. and as the London Branch they get taken to task if it’s not clean for visitors [and it does get visitors]. None of them lives locally and they’ve appealed for our help. It would only be an occasional job which could even be done on a Sunday morning – so, can anyone out there help them? I’ll be happy to show you the grave.
