July and August Judy East

Good heavens, has half the year gone already? Do you long for hot, relaxing summer days when nothing much happens? Or do you dread the empty weeks ahead when everyone seems to be away and nothing much happens? Well, I can’t do much about August but in July we can offer some entertainment:

On 19th June summer finally arrived and we were delighted to join the Friends of the Music for a real garden party, earlier than usual this year but happily not a send-off for the choir, who are with us until 24th July. Lee has arranged a special treat for us on the 31st – a Lunchtime Prom featuring one of his choirs, the Colle Voce Singers, who will stay on and sing Evensong. After that the Scratch choir hope to take over and sing Evensong on some of the Sundays in August.

The Wednesday morning Bible Study will continue in July [but not August].
Comings and goings
We welcomed Sarah Eynstone at the end of June and she writes about herself in this issue [page 7] Sadly on 14th August we will be saying goodbye to Philip Wells, our Pastoral Assistant, who has made himself indispensable around the church and parish. We wish him well and hope he’ll come and visit us from time to time. He offers some thoughts on moving on to Mirfield on page 8. Looking slightly further afield we also welcome Narinder Tegally to the Royal Free Hospital chaplaincy. She will be starting this month.

Apples
On September 3rd [yes, September, it’s not as far away as you think] the Loyds are opening their garden to apple pickers. We’ve all experienced their delicious cooking apples but this year they’ve decided to let you ‘pick your own’. See page 26 for your invitation.
