Summer Nights

17/7/2022

On Friday 8th July The Community Choir, Junior Choir and Hampstead Players put on a fabulous evening of entertainment loosely around the themes of Kings and Queens and Commonwealth (some of the connections were quite loose – such as ‘Danny Boy’ (which was glorious)  and  ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ from the Lion King – but then maybe I am too literal!)

The programme ranged widely from Handel’s ‘Eternal Source of Life Divine’ to ‘Dancing Queen’ by ABBA (which everyone joined in with).

The musical programme had many highlights including a beautiful solo by Aidan Coburn of Percy Grainger’s ‘Brigg Fair’ and ‘The Show Must Go On’ by Queen which included a fabulous electric guitar piece by Jeremy in a beautiful sequinned waistcoat!

The Hampstead Players gave us a chance to ponder and to laugh at ourselves – I particularly loved Margaret Pritchard Houston’s extract from Bill Bryson’s “Notes from a Small Island’.

And afterwards there was a party – of course there was – and a chance to say some thank you’s – To Aidan Coburn, as choir master for the two choirs, for all his encouragement and inspiration, to Geoffrey Webber for all his practical and musical support for the two choirs, and Chris Money for all that she does for the Community Choir.

It was also a chance to say good bye and thank you to the Lindsay and Clark Fitzpatrick who sadly will be moving away. Clark has been in the Junior Choir for 9 years and Lindsay for 13 years.  In thanking them Aidan said when he can’t find things or doesn’t know what to do the solution so often is to “ask Lindsay”.  We will miss all the Fitzpatricks and wish them happiness in their new homes.
