What do you think of in connection with 2012? The Queen’s Jubilee? The Olympics? Well, I rather hope by now you also think Flower Festival or even Bicentenary of the Consecration of the Additional Burial Ground [I’ll settle for Flower Festival – the other is a bit of a mouthful].
Sponsoring flowers
The Flower team are gearing up this month and decisions are being made about where to put the flowers, who to represent, who to commemorate. The two go hand in hand. For instance, I’ve chosen Eliza Acton to represent in my arrangement but the flowers are being given in memory of Joan Barton who ran the Flower team for many years, was churchwarden, wardrobe mistress, coffee team organiser and so much more.
Would you like to join in?
Members of the congregation sponsor flowers in a number of ways in the course of the church’s year: Easter, Christmas, paying for a particular week’s flowers – 2012 is an opportunity to splash out in a different way. Instead of a note in the pewsheet or a list on a board each arrangement will have the details beside it and in the programme. You could have ‘Sponsored by….’ or ‘Sponsored in memory of…. ‘ whichever you prefer [or even ‘Sponsored by……in memory of……’] or it could be completely anonymous and only you will know that one particular arrangement means something special to you.
How to go about it
Because it’s a Festival and people are, we hope, going to come specially to see the flowers, we’re expecting to spend between £60 and £100 on each arrangement. There are 32 arrangements in all and some are already spoken for; if you would like to consider sponsorship please contact me as soon as possible on 0207 267 9339 / [email protected] or write c/o the church.
