“A correspondent writes: Cannot something be done to end or mend Hampstead Parish Church clock? I do not so much object to its picturesque exaggeration that can be recognised as such – 33 strokes at 8am or 17 at 7am – but I do object to its mean and mendacious habit of striking one more or less than the true hour. The church clock ought to set an example of honesty and truth, but if it is incorrigible then let it be made dumb.”
I hope we’re not tempting fate putting this in!
