This year’s annual performance of a requiem ‘from scratch’ will take place on Saturday 11 November –details above. The Friends of the Music have decided to use this occasion to honour the memory of our past President, Jane Garland, who established the Hampstead tradition of singing a requiem from scratch on the Saturday of the Remembrance week-end. The performance will therefore be accompanied by a small professional orchestra led by Alison Bury, and James Sherlock who is returning from Helsinki for the week-end to conduct us, will also be playing a Mozart Piano Concerto (No 23 in A), so we are expecting a splendid turnout of singers and audience for what promises to be a very special and enjoyable day of music-making.
It is our custom to print in the programme, under the heading IN MEMORIAM, the names of those whom our supporters wish to remember. This year the list will of course be headed by Jane herself, but In Memoriam notices are accepted for any contribution of £50 or more. If you would like us to include such a notice in the programme, or indeed if you would like to contribute to the costs of the performance without naming anyone, please get in touch with Handley Stevens (020 7794 0874, [email protected]) or leave a message in his tray in the Vestry. Cheques should be made payable to the Friends of the Music, who have agreed to match all contributions.
