National Sickie Day 3rd February

The first Monday in February has become known as ‘National Sickie Day’. It is the day when we are most likely to ring in sick and depressed, with wintry weather, credit card bills and a long wait until the next holiday all catching up with us.  Post-Christmas blues, fear of a flu outbreak, and financial worries will hit up to 375,000 of us on the 3rd. The cost to the economy could exceed £32 million, according to business advisers ELAS, who warn “more bosses have drifted into accepting texts and emails as confirmation that staff will not be heading into work – making it easier for staff to get away with taking a ‘duvet day’.”

The Bible offers a better solution than staying under the duvet: ‘Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.’ (Psalm 42:11)
