Randolph Schwabe
If you’ve ventured far enough into the ABG (Additional Burial Ground) over the summer you might have come across the newly restored memorial to Randolph Schwabe against the top wall bordering Prospect Place – a figure of an angel originally sculpted by Alan Durst. Schwabe was Slade Professor of Fine Art at UCL from 1930-1948, a War Artist and Book Illustrator. There isn’t space here to go into his career in more detail but you can look him up on wikipedia. The restoration was done by Lois Anderson – not the first she’s done for us, a couple of years ago she recut the Westall memorial stone in the old churchyard.
