The Annual Parochial Church Meeting      Judy East

It must be a sign of a happy parish that the meeting went through all its business in record time.  Even the immensely complicated voting system (there are actually 3 meetings and different groups of people are allowed to vote in each) didn’t faze anyone.

Elections: Angela Gardner and Andrew Penny were re-elected as churchwardens, Diana Finning and Chris Money as deputy wardens; there were no new trustees to be elected and no news on Langley Marish (you’ll have to read the 2013 Annual Report to find out more about that!)  Details of the rest of the elections will be posted on the church noticeboard.

The Electoral roll was presented and stands at 334.

Accounts: Inigo provoked a spontaneous round of applause when he told the meeting he had been treasurer for 35 years.   I won’t attempt to convey anything that he said about the financial situation – it’s all in the report.

The Steeple Cup: This immensely valuable and quite unusable silver gilt cup was given to the church and now resides on permanent display in the V&A. It’s in the Silver gallery (not Church Silver) – the end case by the staircases – one of five and quite the best in the case (I’m not biased at all, you understand, but I do check it out when I’m at the V&A with a certain proprietorial smirk).

The business part of the meeting was followed by a talk about North London Citizens and its parent body, Citizens UK – an alliance of civic organisations and representatives of the major faiths.  If you want to hear more please come to the meeting on 13th May at 7pm at St Mary’s Eversholt Street (behind Euston Station) when Father Stephen will chair a meeting with party leaders.  We need to know numbers so to book a place email  [email protected] or ring 0207 435 0553.
