(d. 1929), Historian, buried in the Churchyard
T.F. Tout was a towering and influential figure in the development of historical studies in Britain in the early twentieth century. He spent most of his life at Manchester University where he established a distinguished and distinctive history school. Tout spent the last five years of his life in Hampstead where he lived with his wife Mary at 3 Oak Hill Park, and he was buried in the Additional Burial Ground on 28 October 1929.
A two day conference is to be held at the Institute of Historical Research on 9 and 10 June 2017 when a number of historians will re-assess aspects of Tout’s life and work. At 6pm on Friday 9 June, Tout’s grandson, Tom Sharp, will speak in the Parish Church about his grandfather and this will be followed by a short ceremony at Tout’s grave.
Everyone is most welcome to come to Tom Sharp’s talk. If you are interested in learning more about the conference, please consult www.history.ac.uk/events/event/7943 where you will find details about the speakers and the programme.
