Volunteer Section – The Cleaning Team Beryl Dowsett

The cleaning team was formed over 35 years ago as the cost of employing a cleaning firm was becoming prohibitive.  It is a positive and satisfying way of contributing to the life of our church and an opportunity to meet other members of the congregation in an informal atmosphere.  Our current churchwarden Diana Finning, recalls my remarked to her that, if you want to get to know people, then you should get involved.

We clean the body of the church four times a year – three of those in conjunction with the flower team at Easter, Harvest and Christmas – and the galleries, lobbies and stairs twice a year.  We meet at the church at 10 a.m. on Saturday mornings for a session of approximately 2 hours.  Each volunteer is allotted a section of the church to clean and you are free to leave as soon as you have finished your task.  However, tea and home made cake is served at the end, with an opportunity to chat and relax.

There are currently about 24 of us, but we are in immediate need of extra volunteers as some long standing members have now left and the more cleaners the quicker we can get the job done!!
