Many years one of His Majesty’s Justices of the Peace and a member of the Honorable Society of Grays Inn’ Barratt says ‘the late philanthropic William Bleamire Esq. was founder of the Hampstead Parochial Benefit Society’ which aimed at promoting ‘Industry, Frugality and Sobriety among the labouring class’ [Park]. The 1802 directory shows him as ‘Magistrate of Hatton Garden Police Office, Hampstead’.
