Painter, of Windmill Hill. ‘He was a lineal descendant of the celebrated Dr Robert Hooke. Though he soared not to any literary excellence like his ancestor, yet he passed with esteem through the vale of this humble life and died respected by his friends and neighbours.’ Robert Hooke [1635-1703] was an eminent scientist, surveyor of London, designer of Montague House etc. and inventor of a marine barometer [DNB}
