David JOY

Mechanical engineer and naval architect. Born in Leeds, his interest in machinery led to an engineering apprenticeship. He designed the celebrated Jenny Lind railway locomotive, invented new valve gear for locomotives, as well as marine engines and the hydraulic organ blower at the Crystal Palace. He lived in Broadhurst Gardens.
