Bert was ratcatcher for Hampstead Council for 40 years. Bert and his wife Rebecca (1884-1963) were also Pearly King and Queen of Hampstead for many years, raising money for charity and becoming famous in the 1950s. They lived in Perrins Court and at New End flats. Their children and grand-children followed Bert and Rebecca as Pearly King and Queen.
