John RIXTON

A gentleman from Lancashire [‘Great Sonky’] who left £3 a year ”for bread to be distributed…. to ye poorest sort of people inhabiting within this parish upon every Sabboath [sic]’. {Bequest now forms part of the Hampstead Parochial Charities] His tombstone is the oldest monument to survive here. He lived to about 80 and his wife to about 90.
