Had a brewery in the High Street around 1700, and laid water pipes thither from the Cold Bath near Well Road. He also brought the first piped water to other Hampstead residents. He ran Jack Straw’s Castle c 1713. His son rebuilt the brewery in 1720, as the arch next to 9a High Street says. His grandson Robert [1729-86] owned Nos 3-17 High Street, two pubs [now gone] and the pond in Well Road
