Scratch Requiem, Remembrance Sunday and a special poppy
On Saturday 12th November seventy-six singers came along to rehearse and sing the beautiful Mozart Requiem Mass K626, directed by our accomplished music director, Geoffrey Webber. After a 3 hour rehearsal there was the customary scrumptious scratch requiem tea provided by members of the congregation, which is always very much appreciated by the singers. While the singers came from around London, the wonderful soloists Christine Buras (soprano), Ruairi Bowen (tenor) and Eogham Desmond (bass) are all regular members of HPC’s professional choir. Helena Cooke (mezzo soprano) stepped in to replace Catherine Backhouse who was unwell.. They were accompanied on piano by our talented organist Joshua Ryan and William Vann. The Scratch Requiem is organised by the Friends of the Music and the proceeds go towards supporting musical activities at Hampstead Parish Church.
On Remembrance Sunday we had another treat – the setting was the haunting Durufle Requiem. And Junior Church made their own lovely poppy as their way of honouring those who fell in war and will not be forgotten
